Understanding the Basics of
Single Tooth & Full-Arch Implants
The most common type of dental implants are single tooth dental implants. These implants use a single dental implant, which is a small rod of titanium that is surgically implanted into your mouth, to support a dental crown. The crown is shaped just like your missing tooth, and is attached to the dental implant after it has healed and bonded with your mouth. Dental implants can also be used to support a full arch of teeth with an implant-supported permanent bridge or an implant-supported denture (overdenture). In this procedure, a series of 4-6 implants are placed in the upper, lower, or both arches of the teeth. Then, once they heal, a bridge is permanently attached, or a removable implant-supported denture is designed which will snap into place and attach to the implants.
Simple and Pain-Free
The Implant Placement Process
The implant placement process is quite straightforward. After you’re approved for a dental implant, scans of your mouth will be taken and Dr. Will Jones will begin developing your implant plan. Once this is complete, you’ll come in for your first appointment. Your mouth will be cleaned and numbed to ensure you feel no pain throughout the procedure. Dr. Will will create a small opening in your gums and jaw and surgically place the implant according to your plan. Once the implant is in place, the area will be cleaned and sutured shut. This process will be repeated if you are having multiple dental implants. The implant serves as an artificial tooth root and will bond with your jaw bone during a process called osseointegration. This makes for a sturdy base to which a beautiful artificial tooth can be attached.
Complete Your Restoration
Placing the Dental Crown
It takes about 3-6 months for a dental implant to completely bond with your oral tissues. During this time, Dr. Will will create your custom dental crown using CEREC technology. Once your mouth has healed completely, you’ll come back in for your follow-up appointment. Your implant-supported artificial tooth will be checked to ensure it fits properly, and then it will be attached to your implant, completing the procedure.
