Reverse Minor Tooth Decay

Fluoride Treatments

Cavities are the most common oral health problem in both children and adults, but they are preventable. They can be avoided with proper oral hygiene, including brushing twice per day for two minutes and flossing, as well as seeing Dr. Will for checkups every six months. Minimizing the amount of sugar you eat can also help you prevent cavities. However, even with the best oral hygiene, tooth decay can still occur. The first stage of decay is called a “soft spot” and it occurs when the enamel is weak, but a hole in the tooth (cavity) has not yet formed.

Fluoride treatments are the best way to treat soft spots. Fluoride has the unique ability to encourage remineralization of your teeth, and strengthen your enamel. Dr. Will will apply a fluoride-rich solution to your teeth, and leave it in place for a few minutes before rinsing it away. When applied in time, this can completely restore your tooth, and prevent a cavity from ever forming.

Protect Yourself from Cavities

Dental Sealants

If you are very cavity-prone, or are just would like to avoid future cavities, dental sealants may be a good choice for you. This procedure is used to seal your rear teeth using a clear, strong plastic resin. Your teeth are cleaned, and then the resin is painted onto each tooth, and hardened using a special UV light.

This prevents oral bacteria, acid and food particles from contacting your teeth directly. In turn, this stops cavities from forming. The rear teeth are typically the most cavity-prone, so sealants are usually only applied to your rear molars and premolars.

Fight Back Against Gum Disease

Periodontal Care

Gum disease affects more than half of all American adults, and proper periodontal care is required to reverse and treat gum disease, and protect your mouth from permanent damage. The first stage of gum disease, known as “gingivitis” is completely reversible, but if your gum disease progresses past this stage, the health of your gums and teeth will be permanently affected.

The most common periodontal treatment is scaling and root planing (also known as a deep cleaning). This involves using special tools to remove plaque and tartar buildup from between your teeth and gums, eliminating the bacteria that are attacking your gums and teeth. Antibiotics treatments may also be used to help control the infection.
